camper Experience

  • Our Mandarin teachers bring the spirit of the American New Year (新年) and the Lunar New Year (春节) alive through songs, idioms, riddles, and storytelling. Children will explore beloved tales and traditions, while learning practical festive phrases and expressions in Mandarin. Each day’s lesson blends language immersion with laughter, movement, and hands-on activities.

  • Children will immerse themselves in rich cultural traditions through creative, meaningful projects. Some examples:

🖌️ 书法|Calligraphy: Write auspicious couplets like “福到人间” and “春满乾坤” on red paper to welcome good luck.

✂️ 剪纸|Paper Cutting: Craft zodiac animals, “福” symbols, and traditional window flowers.

🏮 灯笼制作|Lantern Making: Build and decorate lanterns to light up the new year.

🧧 红包手工|Red Envelope Design: Make personalized red envelopes to exchange with friends.

🐉 舞龙体验|Mini Dragon Dance: Celebrate teamwork and rhythm with a joyful dragon parade!

  • Our young chefs will create dishes that embody the flavors and blessings of the New Year. Some examples:

🍡 糖葫芦|Candied Fresh Fruits: Typical winter snacks for kids to improve appetite and help digestion

🥟 馄饨|Wontons: Nutritious and warm comfort food with a balanced filling

🥢 春卷|Spring Rolls: Golden rolls symbolizing wealth and fortune

🫘 汤圆|Sweet Rice Balls: Soft and sweet, representing family togetherness

🍜 长寿面|Longevity Noodles: Long noodles for a long, happy life. Each recipe is taught with corresponding Chinese vocabulary, storytelling, and sensory fun!

  • Campers will blend art, symbolism, and imagination to celebrate renewal and good fortune, some examples:

🧨 爆竹挂饰|Firecracker Garlands: Using red paper rolls and strings, students craft safe, decorative “firecrackers” that symbolize chasing away bad luck.

🌸 梅花国画|Plum Blossom Ink Painting: Learn brush-painting techniques to paint the “Four Gentlemen” flowers — especially plum blossoms, a symbol of hope and resilience in winter.

🐟 剪纸鱼|“年年有余” Fish Art: Create red paper fish or textured fish mosaics inspired by the saying “年年有余” (“May you have abundance year after year”).

🐴 皮影戏|Chinese Zodiac Shadow Puppet: Build translucent paper puppets and act out New Year legends under lantern light.

🎍吉祥竹花盆装饰|Lucky Bamboo and Calligraphy Pot Design: Decorate bamboo planters with calligraphy and spring motifs, symbolizing strength and renewal.

  • Campers who join three or more days of Immersive Beijing’s Winter Camp will receive a beautiful traditional Chinese outfit (汉服)—a special gift to celebrate their cultural journey!

    Wearing Chinese outfits helps children:

🌸 Embrace the Festive Spirit: Red and gold symbolize luck and joy, helping kids feel part of the New Year celebration.

🧧 Experience Living Culture: Traditional Han and Tang designs let children connect with Chinese aesthetics and values of harmony and beauty.

🐉 Build Connection and Friendship: More days together mean more trust, teamwork, and new friendships — strengthening bonds between students and teachers.

❤️ Create Cherished Memories: Campers will wear their outfits during our New Year celebration and group photo, making the experience unforgettable.

This meaningful gift allows every child to not only learn Chinese—but live it, beautifully and confidently.

  • 🌟 Expert Educators: Passionate bilingual teachers who specialize in creating engaging, culture-rich Mandarin learning experiences.

❤️ Safe and Nurturing Environment: Small group sizes ensure every child receives attention, care, and encouragement.

🏮 Deep Cultural Enrichment: Beyond language, students will gain lasting appreciation for Chinese virtues such as family unity (团圆), gratitude (感恩), and renewal (新生).

🎉 Lifelong Memories: Your child will take home new language skills, handmade crafts, festive stories, and a heart full of New Year joy.
